Meet Anette, a dental assistant who's busy loving life
Here at Nordfolks, we’re always curious to learn more about people’s design choices. That is why we have decided to interview various people with a love for Norwegian design. This time we’ve had a chat with Anette Hjelle, a long time design fanatic based in Norway, who have built a faithful relationship with the Scandia chairs from Fjordfiesta.
1. Hi Anette! We would love to get to know you a little better. Who are you?
Hi there! I’m Anette, a dental assistant from Ålesund, Norway, who is busy loving life. I love spending the weekends together with my husband whom I have been happily married to for more than 25 years. Together we have raised three beautiful children which are now all grown up and have flown the nest. These days my weekends consist of doing the things that give me energy; decorating my home, making good food and taking long walks by the coast. I also love spending quality time with my childhood girlfriends!

2. Have you always been passionate about design?
Yes, I would say it’s in my blood. I was born and raised in an elegant, stately looking house drawn by my father. He subscribed to interior magazines from Germany, and I remember scrolling through them, looking at the pictures and getting carried away by the continental trends. My passion for interior design has followed me my whole life – no wonder I ended up marrying a designer. I love it, since that means we can talk about architecture, design, interior and colors all day long!
3. How would you describe your style?
I really like the combination of old things together with new pieces. I would describe it as somewhat more of a clean and sharp style – bright and Scandinavian. I find it difficult to bring too much color into our house, but love it when I see it in other people’s homes. I have to learn to be more daring, to be a bit more brave when it comes to colors – I’ve started the journey by bringing more colors into my wardrobe bit by bit.

4. Is there one design item that means more to you than others?
Yes, I knew from the moment I saw the collection of Scandia chairs, I just had to have one. We started out with the dining chair; Scandia Junior, but it didn’t take much time before Scandia Senior moved in. I love that the design is timeless, and especially the fact that it is so comfortable to sit in. Not to mention its ability to somehow miraculously match perfect with the rest of our interior. We’ve spent countless hours sitting in them, and more than 10 years after we got them, they are just as beautiful.
5. What are you most excited about right now?
I’m looking forward to the day the pandemic will end, so that we all can hug and visit each other again. Right now I look forward to a week of easter holiday, and to spend it at our cabin in the mountains. If we are lucky we will even go skiing! It will be a relaxing week reading books and eating lots of good food, playing games and enjoying some quality time with my children.
